Reflections...

As I reflect on the amazing couple I met with yesterday who just recently got engaged, Laura, a dear friend who is starting a new adventure in Boston, and on the funeral I'm getting ready to leave town for, a quote I recently saw in O Magazine comes to mind. So often in life we dive in, head first to the great unknown, excited, a little scared, perhaps anxious, hopeful, or sad. But, we do go forward, one step at a time...I think this quote captures what so many women (and men for that matter) feel often...

"Every one of us is called upon, probably many
times, to start a new life.
A frightening diagnosis, a marriage, a move, loss of job...
And onward full tilt we go, pitched and wrecked
and absurdly resolute, driven in spite of everything
to make good on a new shore.
To be hopeful, to embrace one possibility after another--
that is surely the basic instinct...
Crying out: High tide!
Time to move out in the glorious debris.
Time to take this life for what it is."
~Barbara Kingsolver (another DePauw grad!), from High Tide in Tucson
